Chip City is The Best Cookie I've Had in NYC, so far.

I wrote this entire article with chocolate still on my face. I'm very excited about Chip City being on my radar now and I think their business model is ingenious, especially compared to competitors. I would say the top cookie producers in New York are Levain, Chip City, and Insomnia, so now that I've completed the holy triad I feel at complete ease giving a full and articulate review. Gooey on the Inside and Schmackary's is next on the agenda.

Chip City has a rotating menu of 6 cookies every day, which I love for a lot of reasons. Being that I often find myself in Greenwich, this gives me constant excuses to go in, see what flavors they have and try any new ones. Again, brilliant business model just to get foot traffic. They also have locations in Sunnyside, LIC, Astoria, Williamsburg, and Carroll Gardens!

Today's menu was :

Chocolate Chip

Plant-Based Chocolate Chip White Chocolate Macadamia

Cookies N’ Cream S’mores

Lemon Berry

But some standouts I can't wait to try are cinnamon roll, carrot cake, butterscotch toffee, nutella sea salt, and funfetti. I tried all of today's menu besides Lemon Berry. I know I wouldn't like it, I don't like citrus in desserts, I'm not European, it's not my combo. Unfortunate day to go because normally I'd try everything but lemon is my hard stop. Their deal is buy 5 for $20 get a 6th free. Marketing team really has it down to a science.

LEVAIN?

I just had Levain as well so it's very top of mind as I know there is a great debate over whether it is indeed the best cookie in NYC and I have an incessant need to share my opinion on every topic I'm even the least bit familiar with. Consensus: Levain has the same short, unadventurous menu every day and I don't understand the line. I would even say a warm Insomnia cookie with milk has more flavor packed in their cookies than Levain. Levain is just a name, Chip City feels more thoughtful.

Aside from the chocolate chip vs chocolate chip cookie debate, I think the variety is what sets Chip City apart. I love a chocolate chip cookie as much as the next person but I'd take the best carrot cake cookie over that any day. My favorite this round was S'mores, which was crazy because I do not like S'mores flavored things but the ooey marshmellow-y chocolatey goodness was mixed with a cinnamon-y flavor, which I assume to be representative of the graham cracker but whatever was happening was phenomenal. Reminiscent of a cinnamon roll somehow, it was so delicious! It did get thrown around in the box but that's how soft and warm I want my cookies to begin with so no complaints here.

The White Chocolate Macadamia was great it just needed more white chocolate chips. I imagine having such a THICK cookie makes equal distribution and plentiful distribution difficult. Making their feats all the more impressive, if anything.

The Cookies N Cream was disappointing! I really expected that to be my favorite because I love Cookies N Cream flavored things more than anything but it was just a sugar cookie with oreos. I wanted an additional texture to surprise me, captivate me and really entrap me. It needed milk and it was good, don't get me wrong. But they could've done more.

Plant-based Chocolate Chip is nothing I would order again but if I was plant-based I would try!! The catch 22 of a plant based cookie is that they can't really add all the eggs, milk and buttery goodness that makes cookies so good AND be plant-based, so it's understandable.

Now the OG CHOCOLATE CHIP. The original. The classic. I loved it so much. It sat for 30 minutes while I got home too and yet the thing was still warm, still soft, still melted in my mouth. The thickness adds a level of depth to each bite and it's more than enjoyable. My ranking is

1. Chip City

2. Insomnia Cookies with milk

3. Levain Bakery.

Levain Bakery is interesting too because their original is not just chocolate chip it's a chocolate chip/walnut so I will be trying Chip City's chocolate chip/walnut to really go head to head, so many factors!

Overall, lovely service, lovely little shop in a picturesque corner of Greenwich and worth a stop in, every time.
